Back to Basics

As the instructor wrapped up her opening remarks and launched into the first lesson, George frantically paged through the syllabus with a mounting feeling of confusion and dread.

Why did everything look foreign to him? He graduated eight years ago with a 3.8 GPA… He worked for a major pharmaceutical company… His team was on the verge of a major breakthrough! He didn’t understand who had decided he had to retake his degree. But for some reason he couldn’t seem to remember basic algebra.

“George! Can you please come demonstrate the Newton-Leibniz axiom for the class? Excuse me, George?””

The sound of the fire alarm mercifully cut through the air.

“George? George, your alarm! Wake up!”

George sat up in a cold sweat. He was in his bed, his wife curled up with the blanket over her head, the buzzing alarm indicating it was now six-fifteen. He sighed in relief.  At least he hadn’t been naked this time.
